Digital Futures KTH 6G Summit

On September 12, 2025, leading experts from academia, industry, and government gathered at KTH’s AlbaNova campus for the Digital Futures 6G Summit, a full-day event focused on the future of next-generation wireless networks. SweWIN participated actively in the day, through its director Emil Björnson, who presented the center, in front of over 80 participants who took part in the event. The area leader Cicek Cavdar represented SweWIN in the technical programme committee.

The event  featured a series of presentations on the future of 6G, opening with introductions from various research centers (Digital Futures, TECoSA, SweWIN, SMART 6GSAT, 6G-DICE). A session was also dedicated to exploring funding opportunities in Horizon Europe.

The keynote program began with Stefan Parkvall from Ericsson, who discussed cellular technology and the timeline for how the 6G standard takes shape. Following him, Gunes Karabulut-Kurt from Polytechnique Montreal provided a talk on backhaul-related security concerns in non-terrestrial networks. Petar Popovski of Aalborg University gave a thought-provoking talk on real-time wireless intelligence in 6G. The final keynote was given by Marie-Jose Montpetit, who spoke about the SLICES-RI platform and its role in enabling advanced research in the 6G era.

The program also included two panel discussions, one on "What’s new in 6G?" and a second on the "Application requirements" for the new technology. Throughout the day, attendees had several opportunities to read and discuss posters describing recent research results from KTH. The discussions highlighted key technological, security, and application-specific challenges for the next generation of wireless networks.
