Light

The interactions between light and molecular systems play a central role in our activities. Light is here used in a broad sense as not only to include visible and ultraviolet light causing valence electronic transitions but also X-ray radiation and infrared waves resonating with strongly bound core electrons and nuclear vibrations, respectively. A general response-theory framework for light–matter interactions is presented in the book Principles and Practices of Molecular Properties  (Wiley, 2018) by Norman, Ruud, and Saue, which is used as literature material in our PhD course on Molecular Response Theory and Spectroscopy ( FKE3150 ) and serves as a theoretical foundation for much of our program development.
