Terms of use

The KTH Library is open to the public, but certain services and collections are only available to KTH students and staff. By activating your library account, you enter into a formal agreement with KTH Library.

Library account

To apply for a library account, you need to be at least 16 years old and be able to show valid identification (ID card, passport, EU ID).

Activate library account

The library account is personal and not transferable to anyone else. In the event of a library card being lost or stolen, please notify the library as soon as possible.

General terms and conditions

  • Terms of use: You are responsible for staying updated on KTH Library's terms of use. We announce changes on this website and are responsible for ensuring the current version is always available.

  • Loans and returns: You are responsible for keeping track of your loan periods and returning books on time. You are responsible for your loans until they are unregistered from your account. Log in to your library account  

  • Travel and periods of leave: You must be able to return your loans immediately. Remember not to take books with you when traveling, and you should return books before longer periods of leave.

  • Reminders: KTH Library sends out reminders as a service to those who have provided their email address. It is your responsibility to keep track of loan periods regardless of whether reminders reach you. Log in to your library account  to keep track of your loans.

  • Contact information: It is your responsibility to ensure that the library has your current email address and correct address details.

  • Borrowing for another person: Borrowing on behalf of another person requires apower of attorney.

Fees and blocks

  • The library charges a late fee when a loan is overdue and requested by another borrower. If late fees exceed 100 SEK, your library account will be blocked. Read more about late fees .

  • You are obligated to pay for damaged or lost material, 850 SEK per book. All repairs of damaged books are carried out by the library. Read more about fees

  • If you have loans that have not been returned 20 days after the due date, your library account will be blocked, and you will incur a fee of 850 SEK. The fee will be removed as soon as the loan has been returned to the library.

Use of electronic resources

  • License terms: You are obligated to respect the license terms for the library's electronic resources.

  • Personal Use: Printing and downloading of articles from journals and other sources may only be done for personal and non-commercial use, for study or research purposes.

Privacy

Information about loans and requests is protected according to the Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act (2009:400).

Processing of personal data

  • The KTH Library processes your personal data in order facilitate loans, request and reservations.
  • If you are affiliated to KTH as a student or employee, your personal data will be retrieved from KTH's central register. All other users can apply for a library account through self registration on the library website.
  • Storage:
    • Personal data for students and employees at KTH will be purged 6 months after your employment is terminated or you are no longer a student at KTH. If you have loans or fines your account will remain until you have returned the loans and paid your fines.
    • Personal data for library users who are not affiliated to KTH will be kept as long as 2 years after your last loan or request in the library system. If you have active loans or fines your account will remain until you have returned the loans and paid your fines.
