BRIDGE – Sustainability Leadership: Bridging Gaps to a Circular, Resource-Efficient and Equitable Built Environment
The built environment requires systemic change to achieve sustainability, circularity, and resource efficiency. Such change depends on both technical solutions and leadership. This project studies sustainability leadership - the capacity to inspire, influence, and guide organizations and communities toward practices that balance economic, social, and environmental goals to drive such structural transformation.

The BRIDGE project investigates sustainability leadership as a means to address the systemic challenges of transitioning toward a circular, resource-efficient, and equitable built environment. It bridges the gap between policy frameworks and actionable strategies by examining how leaders inspire change and implement sustainability practices. Building on diverse organizational contexts, including NGOs, public housing companies, private landlords, construction firms, and grassroots initiatives, the project explores how innovative leaders conceptualize and enact strategies that drive long-term sustainability. It also examines how leadership fosters collaboration across sectors and promotes equity within the built socio-environmental field. The project further explores gender dynamics in leadership styles, with particular attention to the contributions of women, who are often more inclined toward transformational leadership approaches. Central to the project is the BRIDGE Forum - a platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaborative learning among stakeholders.
