New master's programme in sustainable digitalisation
High requests from both students and staff at KTH resulted in the new master's programme being established at record speed. It is now open for applications, with study start in August 2024.
In the interdisciplinary master's programme, Sustainable Digitalisation, students will gain in-depth knowledge of the relationship between digitalisation and sustainability with a broad perspective. They will gain insight into how digitalisation shapes the world and the environmental effects in both a positive and negative sense.
“Another focus of the programme is leadership, both self-leadership and leading co-creative processes. Students will learn to work with uncertainty, complexity and wicked problems,” says Elina Eriksson, Programme Director.
Daniel Pargman and Elina Eriksson have developed the programme into what it is today. They are associate professors at the Division of Media Technology and Interaction Design and are working with a focus on sustainability. They are often seen in connection with the KTH Sustainability Council and the KTH Climate Action Centre, and they lead the research group Sustainable Futures Lab.
“KTH has ambitious goals in sustainable development. But until now, students at our school have yet to have the opportunity to choose a specialisation in sustainable development,” says Daniel.
“When we told our students that we might be able to start this master's programme, there were students who wanted to take a year’s study break to choose the programme,” Elina continues.
There has also been great demand from the business community for courses in digitalisation and sustainability for further development. A need that can be filled with the courses in the programme.
The students in the programme have great opportunities to get close to business and research.
“The programme has a larger project course in the second year, where the students will work with challenge-driven projects; these will be linked to society at large, industry or other societal actors.”
