Mobile banking led to a prize

Published May 27, 2010

A mobile application which makes it possible for the poorest people in the world to be able to carry out their banking matters directly in a mobile telephone - that was the solution the KTH students Shiv Sivasankar and his team brought home in the Swedish final of the universal Microsoft competition Imagine Cup.

More than 500 contributions have been sent into the eighth Imagine Cup meet, an international competition where creativity and intelligence is united in order to contribute to the UN's eight millennium goals.

The competition was extremely tough. It did not however stop the winning team which had developed the mobile telephone application Credit Mobile which makes it possible for millions of poor people to carry out their banking matters in a simple and easy manner directly via their mobile telephones - Credit Mobile.

The team, consisting of KTH students Shiv Shankar and his teammates who are studying in Singapore and India, will now represent Sweden in the international final in Warsaw.

In the Swedish final, Credit Mobile met the Web reader EyeBrowse and the mobile service Mydoctor.

Ten or so students from KTH are behind the web browser which was developed to recognise eye movements by the user.

Mydoctor is a mobile service which has been developed by Narcisse Mbunzama Lokwa who is studying at Södertorn. The mobile service will make it easier for doctors and nurses to provide advice via SMS and telephone in developing countries.
