Odqvist Laboratory aims to be a world-leading laboratory for studies of phenomena in mechanics of solids and fluids, at length scales ranging from nanometers to meters.

In 2013 the Swedish Research Council judged the present activities within the laboratory as excellent to outstanding and the managers then set out to further strengthen the lab capacity through investments in the latest generation of optical experimental techniques with support from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW). The project MUSCLE (multi-scale experimental mechanics) received a 2.5 M€ grant from KAW and the new equipment enables a broad range of studies of three-dimensional dynamical phenomena in materials and fluids, such as turbulence, biomechanics, suspension flows for materials processing, vibrations and damage propagation.
