Hosna

Hosna Molavi, originally from Iran, is studying the Information and Communication Technology bachelor's program at KTH. In her high school, she majored in mathematics, which sparked her interest in technology and problem solving. In her free time, Hosna enjoys playing ping pong and video games.

Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?

I chose this programme for several reasons. One big factor was that it was the only English taught bachelor’s programme in computer science, and I had already decided early on that computer science was what I wanted to study. Also, since I moved to Sweden, KTH has always been my dream university because of its strong connections with industry and its balanced approach between practical skills and solid education.

What are the best aspects of your programme?

It offers a wide variety of courses, not just pure computer science or programming, but also physics, mathematics, and many interesting electives that you can choose from. I appreciate that the program focuses more on practical learning than just theory. Many project-based courses help you grow not only as a researcher and problem solver but also as a developer.

How do studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?

Studying at KTH has been a completely different experience compared to high school or even the online courses I took earlier. Here, you really need to change your study approach because the courses are very hands-on. Group work is a big part of it, so you are collaborating a lot instead of just studying alone. The challenges are bigger, as are the opportunities to learn and grow.

How would you describe your time at KTH so far?

It’s been fun! Besides the academic side, many fun activities, like workshops and career fairs, help you build connections and make friends. I joined a committee during my first year, and it was great to hang out, play board games, and relax with people after long study sessions. Being part of these groups has also helped me a lot because you get to meet students who are a few years ahead and can share useful advice.

How is student life in Stockholm?

I’d say student life in Stockholm is cosy but also exciting. There is always something to do, whether it is swimming in lakes during summer or ice skating in winter. The city has a lot of calm cafés and co-working spaces that are perfect for studying. I highly recommend checking those out!
