Esra
Esra is half Korean and half Turkish. She completed her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at Yonsei university, Seoul, South Korea, before applying for her master’s programme in Molecular Science and Engineering here at KTH. In her free time, she likes to watch anime, play video games, and go on long walks while listening to music.
Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?
Coming from a broad major such as chemical engineering, I wanted to specialise further in materials science and deepen my understanding of how materials can be designed for practical applications. I am particularly interested in biomaterials and semiconductors. The Molecular Science and Engineering master’s programme here at KTH provides a strong foundation for synthetic and analytical chemistry, as well as flexibility to explore different research areas.
Have you chosen a specialisation track within the programme? Which track and why?
A lot can change over the course of two years, but for now I am motivated by the Materials Chemistry specialisation track, as it aligns with my interests. Since it is also possible for students to design their own specialisation tracks, I might just do that! This freedom that KTH provides for students makes me even more excited for my studies.
What do you want to do after graduating?
After graduating, I want to pursue a research-oriented career focused on developing advanced materials that contribute to a more sustainable future. Whether it is biomaterials that are tailored to patient-specific needs, or materials that can improve technologies such as semiconductors and batteries. I want what I research to not only be on paper but also be applied in the real world as practical solutions.
What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master’s studies?
You can be confident that you are making a good choice applying here. From my experience so far, KTH has been very welcoming and supportive. I’ve felt that there is always guidance available, whether it’s about academics or student life. They make sure that your transition into a new life in a new country goes as smoothly as possible, so you can rest assured.
