Rishit
Rishit is from New Delhi, India and is pursuing a Master’s in Sustainable Engineering Energy from KTH. Previously, he completed a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Shiv Nadar Institute of Eminence, with a specialisation in Energy Technology & Storage Management and Thermodynamics. His interests include basketball, producing music, and exploring the city.
Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?
My interest in Sustainable Energy Engineering stemmed from the potential of mechanical engineering in the field. Having worked on multiple projects piloting new ways to harness energy in daily life, I knew that this was an area I want to build my career in. Naturally, I was drawn to the programme at KTH, with Sweden being the one of the biggest hub for industry-leading energy technologies globally.
What are the best aspects of your programme?
What I really enjoy about the programme is how the learning experience has been linked to the real-world problems. Courses allow for us to understand how the industry operates and develop solutions to real problems within the course boundaries. The programme is split into 3 tracks, each targeting a different field in the energy sector, allowing for an overall learning, not just specific to engineering but also policies and economics.
Being in an international environment, studying alongside people from all around the world has been a wonderful experience. It allows for a deeper and dynamic perspective into our discussion in the classroom.
Have you chosen a specialisation track within the programme? Which track and why?
As per my interests, I chose the track: Energy Supply through Clean Conversion Technologies. This track not only discusses the traditional energy systems in employment currently, but also how moving forward, renewable energy will transform and benefit these. This track appeals to me the most as one with a good focus on both technology development and policies.
What are some of your favourite courses so far?
My favourite courses so far at KTH would include Energy Management, Renewable Energy Technology, and Modelling of Energy Systems. While ‘Renewable Energy Technology’ goes through the foundations of various energy systems, ‘Modelling of Energy Systems’ provides us the tools to develop techno-economic models, to accurately investigate the benefits of integrating renewable technology with existing power plants. Finally, Energy Management focuses on developing net-zero systems for a real-life case, presenting it as a business proposal to the relevant stakeholders.
How is student life in Stockholm?
Student life in Stockholm is extremely engaging. The city is so accessible, it feels like it is designed for students. A good mixture of both nature and beautiful architecture, provides for a fulfilling experience, in addition to the reliable transport system. Be it chasing sunsets in late August, to staying up at the beach to catch a glimpse of the Aurora late at night, or grabbing that Fika after class with your course mates, there never feels to be a dull moment in Stockholm. The coursework is designed so, that there is a perfect balance between staying on top of your work and enjoying what the city offers to the maximum.
