Felix Heim

Felix Heim
Master's programme in Sports Technology

I work as a software engineer at Wrlds Technologies in Stockholm, where we help established companies develop digital products with sensors and machine learning. The use cases can vary significantly from customer to customer. But especially in the sports sector, there is a lot of interest, for example, in making analogue sports equipment smart with our sensors and AI.

What can a regular day look like at your job?

My job is mainly related to our SDKs for mobile app development. I start around 8 am on a regular day and leave between 16 and 17 o'clock. My tasks vary between programming, testing and project management. Some days I'm coding the entire day. On other days, I spend time testing SDKs with new sensors and meeting other developers to discuss new features.

I can work remotely or in our office in Stockholm. When we are at the office, we usually play table tennis or do other fun activities together during our lunch break.

Why did you choose the Sports Technology programme at KTH?

Studying something that I was passionate about and made me happy was what I wanted to do. The combination of sports and technology was exactly what I was looking for. Also, from personal experience, I know how much fun it is to use a sports watch and workout/health apps to track exercise activities. In this way, you see progress and get motivated to work out more. A career in creating and working with technologies like that sounded exciting to me. In addition, I have a personal connection to Sweden and love the culture and nature here. Thus, my decision to go to KTH was easy, and I am happy that I was accepted.

Have you worked with anything else since you graduated?

No, I started at Wrlds before graduating and continued full-time as soon as I finished my studies.

Are there any insights you acquired during your studies that have been extra useful for you in your career?

Yes, everything around IMUs and app development was beneficial for me. I also found it helpful to have worked with Bluetooth devices during my studies, as they are a crucial component of my work today. Of course, you will learn many things at the job because you work 40h per week in the same area here. But with the technical skills, I acquired during my studies. it was easier to find a job.

What was the best aspects of your studies at KTH?

It was great that we could choose a lot of different subjects. In that way, you are gaining many new skills and discovering what you are really interested in and want to focus on in your future career. Furthermore, I liked that the programme was very applied and that we did a lot of projects related to real worlds scenarios. It makes learning much easier when it is clear that a particular skill is needed in a real-world application.

What is your best memory from your time at the universities?

The best memory I have is the very beginning. I was so happy that I got admitted, and it just felt great to be finally in Sweden on the KTH campus. It was super exciting to meet the other students. We were all like-minded people, and it was effortless to make friends. Even after graduating, we still meet up sometimes after work and do fun activities together.

What are your plans for the future?

I love my job, so I will continue working at Wrlds Technologies. I like my work tasks and the fact that I learn new things daily. Also, the team is excellent, and everyone I work with is super friendly.

What would you want to say to a student thinking of applying for this programme?

Those interested in sports and wishing to boost their tech skills should consider the Masters in Sports Technology programme here at KTH. It is lots of fun! Since courses are taught in English, international students have plenty of freedom to explore interesting topics. Also, Sweden is a lovely place to live and offers many activities outside university life!
