Ask Bokuan a question

Why did you choose this master's programme at KTH?

My undergraduate academic background was in Land Resource Management, which falls under the field of public administration within sociology. During my undergraduate studies, I realized that land issues are not simply a matter of management; technologies also play an important role, especially geoinformation technology. Therefore, I chose the master's programme in Transport and Geoinformation Technology at KTH to enhance my skills in this field.

What are the best aspects of your programme?

As a former social science student, I always considered myself a GIS user but not a developer, so I had little experience in programming and development. However, my master's programme offers me comprehensive courses on GIS development, helping me become a professional GIS developer. Additionally, my classmates come from various academic backgrounds, such as civil and transport engineering. This diverse academic background allows me to receive knowledge and experience from different fields.

Have you chosen a specialisation track within the programme? If yes, which track and why?

Based on my interest and background, I mainly chose courses from the geoinformation track. However, it's worth mentioning that students in this programme are not required to select a specific track. We choose the courses we want to take, and we can even combine courses from different tracks. Therefore, the study plan varies from individual to individual and is highly based on personal interest.

How do studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?

At KTH, each semester is divided into two periods, with usually two courses in each period. This allows me to focus on specific courses. A typical course consists of lectures and labs, providing theory and practice separately. Most lab assignments are done in groups, so we can learn something from our teammates.

How is student life in Stockholm?

Student life in Stockholm is wonderful for me. Stockholm is definitely an expensive city, but there are many economical student accommodation options, so the cost of living in Stockholm is similar to in other European countries/cities. Our campus is in Norra Djurgården, a famous and large natural park in Stockholm, where you can enjoy nature fully. If you are like me and enjoy traveling, there are flights from Stockholm to destinations worldwide, and you can also take SJ trains to explore the whole Scandinavia sector. If you are a sports/music fan, Stockholm also offers many sports events and live shows. In short, as a diverse and inclusive city, Stockholm is perfect for people of all backgrounds and interests. It welcomes you with open arms!
