Mechanisms in Kraft pulping

In spite of the kraft pulping is an old and established process, there are still unknown factors in the process and room for improvement.

Project description

The fate of the carbohydrates degraded in the mechanism is to large extent unknown. The fact that kraft pulping is performed at overpressure makes it difficult to study the process. Can one develop a version of kraft pulping operable at atmospheric pressure?
