Pulping of different parts of the tree

A tree has different parts; top, heartwood, sap wood, and branches. What difference is it between the wood from these different parts? Will pulping kinetics be different for the different parts? Will the pulp produced be suitable for different types of application? Will kraft lignin orginated from the different parts have different quality?

Project description

Norway spruce has been harvested in Umeå, and is separated into four parts: tip (juvenile wood), sap wood, heartwood, and branches. The material has been chipped and wood will be characterized morphologically and chemically. Pulping will be performed on the different fractions, and pulps and black liquor will be characterized.
