Optical Stimulation

Project description

Within the project Optical Stimulation are we investigating the possibility to use light from a laser to functionally activate nerve cells. The research is based on simulated models and cell culture work. The project has been running for about 4 years and a working experimental setup is being used. The cells are illuminated by a laser and their electrical response is detected.

The research on optical stimulation is still a relatively small research area, but the interest is growing and to date are about 10 groups working in the field.
