About me

Antonio Maffei is Associate Professor in Production Systems at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. He received his PhD in Production Engineering and Management from KTH in 2012 and holds MSc and BSc degrees in Engineering from the University of Pisa, Italy. He has also completed advanced studies and research in higher education pedagogy in cooperation with different European universities.

Antonio Maffei is affiliated with XPRES, the Excellence Centre in Production Research at KTH, where he contributes to research and collaboration activities in sustainable and digital manufacturing. He has extensive international experience through research collaborations, visiting appointments, teaching activities, and participation in European and international research projects.

His research focuses on digital transformation of industry, artificial intelligence in manufacturing, production systems, automation, sustainable business models, and industrial decision support. He is currently involved in several national and European initiatives addressing AI adoption, industrial transformation, and skills development, including AI ShiftLabs and a number of projects exploring the role of artificial intelligence in education and workforce development.

In parallel with his engineering research, Antonio Maffei is active in educational research and development, with interests in constructive alignment, blended learning, learning analytics, AI-enhanced education, and competence development in higher education. Since 2022, he has served as Future Leader for Strategic Educational Development at KTH.

He has coordinated and participated in numerous national and international research and innovation projects and has authored a substantial body of scientific publications in journals, books, and peer-reviewed conference proceedings. He is a member of the Swedish Production Academy and has been actively engaged in several international professional and academic networks throughout his career. He is also a registered Professional Engineer in Italy.
