Why I chose KTH?

Are you confused about where to study next year and whether KTH is the best for you? Then you should keep reading because I was in the same position. Studying at KTH is one of the best decisions of my life, and I am not exaggerating…!

I studied in London before coming to Sweden. Since many things influenced my decision to come to study in Stockholm, brexit was one of them. Also, as you all know, living costs in London are super high for a student… plus studying architecture meant that quite a lot of my money went on model making, printing, buying materials and mandatory studio trips…

Everything changed once I moved to Stockholm, and for the better! I believe the main reasons why I chose KTH were ranking among the top universities, Stockholm being a multicultural city, English everywhere for easy communication and balancing study&personal life.

High-quality education

This year KTH is ranked 89 in the world among all universities 2022 QS World University Rankings. No way! Is this correct? Yes, it is. All of my graduate friends have found a job in good companies in Sweden. A few of them got a job in their profession even before graduation! I believe that tells a lot about why KTH is ranked so high. This year, the QS Top Universities ranking showed that KTH ranks 28 among the world’s universities for engineering and technology. To impress you even more, Architecture was ranked 19 by QS in 2019!

International City

Stockholm, in particular, is a multicultural and international city which was one of my criteria for choosing to study here. It is extraordinary to meet people from various backgrounds, have different beliefs, and share and learn them in between! Also, learn a few words in their languages too: Ciao, Bonjour and hola! Especially if you live in student accommodation, you get a chance to cook traditional food together with other international students! To add to this, you can find authentic food stores of various kitchens around the city.

Everyone speaks English!

I was genuinely impressed that everyone speaks English here, including the elderly generation, which brings communication to the next level! The way Sweden provides integration into the Swedish community is just brilliant. Many international companies speak English within the office, and employees are simultaneously taking Swedish courses. Usually, the costs for the Swedish classes are covered by the company. In comparison to other countries, I haven’t heard anyone providing this smooth integration.

Even though most signs and labels are written in Swedish, with the help of technology, it is ‘easy peasy lemon squeezy’ to translate. If you fall in love with Stockholm as I did, you can learn Swedish for free at KTH! What can be more amazing than that?

Focus on wellbeing

When choosing where to study, my priorities were to improve my health and find a balance between my studies and personal life. The workload at KTH is balanced for students to have time for a part-time job, do sports and grab a beer now and then! Or two.

Also, being close to nature and the Swedish healthy lifestyle (oh, they work out and move a lot) has really affected me in a good way! I fell in love with cycling here! I started from being afraid of getting hit by someone on the road to fixing a bicycle myself. By the way, I just went jogging before starting to write this blog!

Well, I hope I see you next year at KTH and good luck with your applications!

  2. I am so impressed and challenged by the information shared here and in the comments of your readers. I am working on a post for Education, as well, so it’s a timely visit. It is an important post, and I’ve not taken enough time to write it yet just thinking and researching so far.
