Frauke Urban from KTH’s Department of Industrial Economics and Management (INDEK) participated in a panel discussion at the recent COP28 climate summit to discuss the interaction between academia and technology that can develop the green economy.

The panel discussion was part of a side event entitled “Impact tech for scale and action” at the international climate change negotiations at COP28. The event was organized by Christofer Laurell and Orren Shalit from ClimateView and took place both at the Swedish pavilion at COP in Dubai and the Stockholm studio at Business Sweden’s headquarter, where Frauke Urban  joined for the livestreamed discussion.

The panel discussed the role of technology for achieving sustainable development, and elaborated the perspectives of “impact tech companies” (start-up or scale-up companies that develop technologies for creating impact) and academia. During the session, several leading companies and academic institutions discussed how to achieve progress toward a sustainable and climate compatible future. Frauke Urban represented KTH and was joined by experts from Stockholm Resilience Center and the Stockholm School of Economics. Frauke highlighted particularly the work that is being done at KTH with relevance to climate change, decarbonization and management of sustainable energy systems. She also mentioned that KTH works closely together with industry and societal stakeholders in these fields.

“The aim of academia should be to advance knowledge for positive change in society. KTH is Sweden’s largest technical university and therefore plays a key role in research, education and technological development that is relevant for addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development,” Frauke Urban says.
