Healthcare UPgraded: Role of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare

HelloAI Summer School trains future healthcare professionals to embrace the possibilities offered by Artificial Intelligence. AI already shows promise in addressing the healthcare challenges of an ageing population, a growing prevalence of chronic diseases and a shortage of professionals in areas like radiology and pathology. This course seeks to prepare future generations for widespread implementation of AI, to identify relevant unmet clinical needs and to explore business potential of AI, while also considering the ethical aspects.
The 2019 programme has been designed to provide theoretical and practical background, and to explore a business-oriented approach – including start-up creation, intellectual property rights training and (bio)ethical considerations. The course includes preparatory materials to provide a common understanding, and five-days of on-site training from data scientists and external lecturers, including start-up leaders, at GE Healthcare’s Budapest office. KTH will join the Budapest event onsite and provide remote access to server infrastructure. Teams of participants will have an opportunity to further elaborate their selected challenges remotely, and to continue their training in Barcelona. On the last day of the Summer School, participants will present their solutions in front of an expert panel of major stakeholders: industry, academia and healthcare providers.

Artificial Intelligence for Reinventing European Healthcare

This Summer School addresses the complex challenge of reinventing the European healthcare sector with Artificial Intelligence (AI). Using experienced-based co-design (EBCD), which involves input of healthcare staff and patients, participants will discover how they can use AI to develop innovative projects that increase efficiency in R&D.
Students will learn to develop solutions that bridge the gap between the proof of efficacy required to pass regulatory scrutiny and the statistical demonstration of likely effectiveness needed to satisfy health technology assessment bodies. The programme will provide theoretical and practical knowledge regarding various aspects of AI challenges in healthcare, and introduce a needs-led innovation approach on precision medicine.
Who can apply?
University students from medical, engineering and business (economics, marketing) faculties are the primary target audience of this summer school. However, we will raise awareness of practicing healthcare professionals as they can be ambassadors of innovative technologies.
