Record increase in new ideas at KTH - meet 18 new startups

The number of new ideas at KTH Innovation has increased by 20 percent during the first half of 2025 – a development strongly driven by AI. Over 220 new ideas have been submitted so far this year, and in total nearly 350 startup projects are being developed with support from KTH Innovation. Now, 18 of them are starting their journey in KTH Innovation Launch, a program for promising startups from KTH.
– There is enormous momentum in Stockholm right now, and it’s clear that AI is driving the development. The teams we support use AI not only to build new apps, but also as a tool to accelerate the development of advanced, research-based technology and hardware. This gives us a breadth that is unique in Europe, says Lisa Ericsson, Head of KTH Innovation and CEO of KTH Ventures.
KTH Innovation is ranked as one of Europe’s leading startup hubs, with nearly 500 alumni companies. Among them are Foreseeti (acquired by Google), SuperAnnotate, that recently secured nearly 350 million SEK in funding, IPercept, Greenely, Imagi, and Flox. Several of Stockholm’s most renowned entrepreneurs also started some of their first companies at KTH Innovation, like Fabian Bolin (Lovable) and Hjalmar Nilsonne (Neko Health).
18 new startups join KTH Innovation Launch

Now, 18 new teams start their journey in KTH Innovation Launch, a program for promising startup teams aiming to get to market quickly. Only about 10 percent of the ideas supported by KTH Innovation are accepted into the program, which lasts 6–12 months.
Participants receive business development coaching, support with patents and agreements, access to office space, makerspace and production studio, as well as a place in a unique community of founders. They also meet investors, experts, and industry contacts who open doors and contribute with capital and international networks. The program has been compared to international initiatives such as Berkeley Skydeck and is often described as a “masterclass” in building companies.
Sixty percent of the new teams are developing explicit AI solutions, but Ericsson emphasizes that the impact is visible throughout the entire ecosystem, both in Sweden and Europe, where KTH Innovation has strong ties through its membership in the Rise Europe network.
- The journey from idea to market is moving faster than ever, she says.
Secured investment halfway through the program
One example of this is one of the program’s alumni, SonicFlora, which secured investment from, among others, Almi Invest already halfway through its time in Launch.
– Building a startup is tough enough on its own, but with KTH Innovation Launch behind us, the journey has become much easier. The program provides invaluable support through experienced coaches and contact with other companies on the same journey, says founder Oscar Davidsson.
The 18 new teams represent everything from more environmentally friendly gold extraction to smart wine recommendations – and are now taking their first steps toward the market with support from KTH Innovation.
