KTH is 27th most international university worldwide

Published Feb 04, 2014

KTH’s international profile is among the strongest in the world of higher education, according to a prestigious ranking that was just released.

KTH Royal Institute of Technology was ranked 27th in the Times Higher Education (THE) list of the 100 most international universities in the world, it was announced recently.

THE rated the universities according to its “international outlook” indicator from the its World University Rankings.

“It’s truly exciting that KTH’s character and quality as an international university has so clearly shown up in the rankings,” KTH President Peter Gudmundson says.

The international outlook indicators consist of three measurements:  the percentage of international faculty and researchers; the proportion of its research papers published with a co-author from at least one other country; and the percentage of international students. The list is drawn from the top 400 universities in the THE World University Rankings 2013-2014, in which KTH ranked 117th.

“KTH performs particularly well in the first two indicators where we belong among the top 25 in the world,” says Per-Anders Östling, KTH ranking expert.

KTH ranks at around 35 worldwide in the proportion of international students.

The ranking is based on data from 2011. Östling says that KTH has in recent years performed very well in this dimension, as well as in the indicators in the QS World University Rankings which measures the percentage of international students and percentage of international faculty and researchers.

“THE’s new rankings confirm the image of the Royal Institute of Technology as one of the most international universities in the world,” he says.
