KTH Space Robotics Laboratory

KTH's Space Robotics Laboratory, developed by the WASP NEST project DISCOWER, is an advanced facility where spacecraft and robotics can be simulated in a two-dimensional representation of microgravity. This testbed enables the development and evaluation of autonomous control and planning algorithms for multi-agent systems under weightless conditions.
The testbed includes a smooth and flat epoxy floor, a ground station, low- and high-pressure compressors for uninterrupted test sessions, and a Qualisys motion capture system consisting of six cameras for precise tracking and evaluation of developed algorithms.
In KTH's Space Robotics Laboratory, there are several ATMOS free-flyers that move frictionlessly over the epoxy floor through thruster-like propulsion using compressed air (a form of levitation). Each unit is equipped with a Pixhawk 6X Mini microcontroller running PX4 and an Nvidia Jetson Orin NX computer for advanced onboard autonomy, communicating via ROS 2 for system integration and sensor management.
