Afroditi
Afroditi is from Athens, Greece. Before coming to Sweden, she studied Applied Mathematics at the National Technical University of Athens. After working as a data analyst, she realised that she wanted to use her mathematical skills to have a meaningful impact on people's health and quality of life. She's a true kanelbulle enjoyer, and she can make lists about anything.
Why did you choose this master's programme at KTH?
I chose the MSc Biostatistics & Data Science because it is a unique degree that perfectly aligns with my goal of combining mathematics with the health sector. It is an extraordinary union of disciplines and an ideal combination of theoretical and practical knowledge. Studying simultaneously at three prestigious institutes can be challenging, but it is an incredible opportunity! I get to experience the best of all academic worlds in Stockholm, attend lectures with globally renowned professionals and work on projects based on real cases - I couldn't help but apply!
How do studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?
Studying in Stockholm has been my best academic experience so far! The differences from Athens are significant and relate mostly to structure and the overall educational atmosphere. Having two courses per period allows me to focus deeply on specific topics and take the time to digest the material truly. I appreciate the well-organised school system designed to help students achieve their goals. Professors are approachable and always available; any question is welcome. The learning environment is truly supportive!
How is student life in Stockholm?
Vibrant, colourful and exciting! The options are endless – from hikes in nature to museums, concerts and cinemas, Stockholm has something for everyone! My highlight is witnessing the changing of the seasons and doing activities that match the weather: exploring forests and admiring the golden autumn leaves, enjoying a sauna in the winter, playing in the snow, and taking a swim in Stockholm's archipelago on a warm summer day.
How would you describe your time at KTH so far?
KTH has been a real-life Hogwarts for me! I love studying at the library, having lunch outside on a sunny day, and being involved in student clubs and activities. Even the hardest parts of the programme, like exams, assignments, and group projects, are fun in such a place! I also love the overall energy on campus: everyone seems committed and actively prioritises their studies. Fika has become a lifestyle, and a sweet treat between study breaks with my classmates is now our ritual and coping mechanism.
What do you want to do after graduating?
I aspire to work as a biostatistician or data scientist in the medical field, applying the skills and knowledge I will have gained. I would love to stay in Stockholm and explore the research and professional opportunities it offers. Whatever lies ahead, I am sure I will be equipped with strong skills and unforgettable memories.
What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master's studies?
Don't hesitate, go for it! It will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, not only academically but also personally! Moving abroad is an adventure, and it is totally worth it when the drive for knowledge is strong.
