Kevin
Kevin is a student in the Civil and Architectural Engineering programme at KTH. Originally from Greece, he holds a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Epoka University. Outside of his studies, Kevin enjoys reading historical books and exploring Sweden’s natural landscapes. As a student ambassador, he shares his experiences and assists new students in learning more about studying at KTH.
Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?
I chose the Civil and Architectural Engineering programme at KTH because it offers the perfect blend of engineering and design for me. With a background in civil engineering, I wanted to broaden my knowledge and learn how technical solutions connect with practical ideas. Additionally, I was particularly interested in the programme's emphasis on sustainability and its preparation for addressing real-world challenges.
Have you chosen a specialisation track within the programme? Which track and why?
I have chosen the Structural Engineering track within the programme at KTH. This track is known to be one of the more challenging options, which is precisely what attracted me to it. The courses provide a strong foundation and gradually progress into more advanced and technical topics, which I find both demanding and rewarding. I have always had a keen interest in structural engineering, particularly in analysing problems and working through calculations to find practical solutions. Therefore, this track felt like the right choice for me. Additionally, I have decided to combine this track with courses in road and railway engineering, building on the foundation of transportation engineering that I developed during my previous studies.
What are some of your favourite courses so far?
There are a few courses I really enjoyed during my time in Stockholm at KTH. One of my favourites is “Steel and Timber Structures”, which is both very practical and highly relevant to structural engineering. I also found “Advanced Concrete Structures” especially interesting, as it combines theoretical knowledge with FEM analysis and helps build a deeper understanding of how structural behaviour is modelled in practice. Lastly, “Road and Railway Engineering” stood out to me because of its real-world impact and future importance. Topics like the development of high-speed rail and magnetic levitation will soon become the future of engineering in Sweden.
How would you describe your time at KTH so far?
My time at KTH has been wonderful so far. The university provides a great balance between academics and personal life, enabling students to remain productive while also making time for their own interests. The programme is designed to allow you to set your own study pace, which alleviates any pressure. In addition to the educational aspect, the overall environment significantly enhances the experience. The green campus areas, welcoming atmosphere, and one of the cosiest libraries in Sweden all contribute to making my time here even more enjoyable.
What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master’s studies?
If you are considering KTH Royal Institute of Technology for your master’s studies, I highly recommend it. KTH offers a great balance between academic life and personal well-being, while fostering both academic and personal growth. You'll have the opportunity to meet people from various countries, work on fascinating projects, and immerse yourself in student life in Stockholm. Although the studies can be challenging, the overall experience is very rewarding.
