Osheen says that knowledge of the student at KTH is not just judged by the grades they get but by the understanding they have of the subject

Osheen comes from Lucknow, India, and she did her bachelors from Manipal University-Karnataka. Her hobbies are cooking and baking, and she loves to try new cuisines. Apart from that, she likes traveling and exploring new places. She studied at KTH between 2018 and 2020.

What made you choose KTH, Stockholm / Sweden?

KTH holds a very good ranking and is among the top 100 universities in the world, and it is also well known for its research areas, so I chose KTH over any other university. It's a well-known university in Europe offering a wide range of specialisations in various engineering domains. The best part of KTH is that the master's education is completely provided in English, so there is no language barrier as compared to other European universities.

I think it's mostly everyone's concern when they move from one place to another as to how safe that new place would be. And I guess Stockholm is one of the safest places on this planet earth. It's a beautiful place with happy people around, and I really wanted to know about the Swedish culture and people. It is not only safe, but it is also among the top 5 cleanest places in the world, and if I talk about technology, then Sweden again makes it to the top 10 list. Also, the work-life balance in Sweden is amazing. As Sweden acquires the top spot in these different criteria, who would not choose Sweden? Well, I don't think anyone would miss the opportunity of coming here because it's a once in a lifetime experience to live in such a great place.

What do you like the most about KTH?

Coming from a country where grades are the only factor to decide a job, admission to college, etc., it's great to be here now at KTH, where grades are not the only factor to judge students' intelligence. Not only this, the way the academic year is planned is so flexible that students can take a break from studies if they want to and then continue again after a while. Also, the semester here is divided into two periods, which basically means that a course doesn't continue for the whole semester but is only held for two and a half months. In this way, students have the opportunity to learn more subjects in a semester instead of limited subjects. Also, students are able to choose any course from a wide range of courses offered. Last but not the least, the lively KTH campus and the lunch seminars/lectures are the best deal for student life.

What are your impressions of Stockholm and Sweden?

Stockholm is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. It's very calm, and I really love the Swedish culture and fika meetings. People are very helpful, and no one judges you. Also, it's very well connected with the public transportation system, so it's not necessary to have your own vehicle because you can travel from one corner to the other with public transport.

Most importantly, I had never experienced negative temperatures in winter and never saw snow before in my life, and Stockholm gave me the chance to spend almost six months in the winter, which was truly a new experience for me. I really love it when it snows in Stockholm. It just makes the city even more beautiful, like a paradise.

What is your best memory from your time at KTH so far?

I volunteered as a THS International Buddy in 2019 for the fall International Reception. It was a great experience to work with such a huge international crowd and welcome people from around the globe. It was fun to be part of the THS Student Union at KTH. I like making friends, and it was a nice opportunity for me to make new friends and share experiences with them.

Are there any differences between studying at KTH and your home university?

Yes, of course, there is a huge difference. My home university had many written exams, and it was too much focused on grades, but here at KTH, most of the subjects I have studied have involved practical knowledge and coding, which I think would be beneficial further in my career, be that a job or PhD. Here, the knowledge of the student is not judged by the grades they get but by the understanding they have of the subject.

What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master's studies?

KTH is one of the best choices one could make for master's studies. If one is willing to learn and achieve their aim in life, then KTH provides all the opportunities to make one's dreams come true. The involvement with an international crowd and the teamwork will not only make you good in academic terms but will also enhance your personality and way of thinking. I highly recommend all the students out there who are reading this to please go for it and make KTH your first choice for master's education.

What do you see as the most significant aspects of your programme?

The tie-up of KTH with Karolinska Institute makes it a great platform to explore the various research opportunities in the field of healthcare.

Are you taking part in any student activities?

I am a member of THS Student Union, and I like to participate in the events organised by THS.

Do you have a dream job after graduating from KTH?

I would like to pursue a Ph.D. in the field of medical imaging if I get the opportunity.
