Research area description

Research within “Leadership and Project Management” explores how leadership practices and project organising shape organisational performance, innovation, and change in contemporary work environments. The studies examine a diverse range of phenomena on individual, team, organisational and societal levels, including leadership practices and behaviour, organisational development, organisational learning, temporary organising, multi-project management, project-based organisations, agile methodologies, knowledge work, competence renewal, and start-up leadership.

The research engages with theoretical concepts such as distributed leadership, organisational ambidexterity, organisational learning, psychological contracts, value, organisation design and projectification, while critically addressing practical challenges in project-based and knowledge-intensive work.

A large variety of methods are used to in the studies including conceptual work, interviews, case studies, critical incident technique, action research and discourse analysis.

The faculty includes the founders of the international research networks IRNOP (International Research Network on Organising by Projects) and MPC (Making Projects Critical), reflecting the institution’s long-standing leadership in this field.

The overarching aim is to advance understanding of how leadership and project management practices can be developed to meet complex organisational challenges and create value across individual, organisational, and societal levels.
