Thanks for a good introduction today! I'm really looking forward to this course. It's one of my favourite courses to teach! We'll get some talks on what it means to develop products and services for the health care sector and then you'll get a chance to meet the coaches for the respective project proposal. At the end we'll have matched six projects with six project groups!

Location: In the corridor outside VIC!

The most important for all of you now is to understand your area/domain and to be able to focus the problem you'll be working on and define the scale of the project. 

Some relevant project management pointers at this stage:

• Analyse the project information (so far)

    - What’s the project about? Start formulating

    - What are the goals?

• What do you know, what do you need to know more of?

• What are prerequisites and what’s up to you to define/decide?

• What are the external resources (tech, personnel, etc)

• Initial risk analysis

• Agree on a project leader – and give him/her the mandate!

• Agree on the initial work organisation: e.g. meeting formalities, sanctions, availability of work force, etc

• Set up a joint work/documentation area of some kind – assign as action point (AP) to someone

• Do a competence and expectations inventory

• Discuss on relevant roles in your project (based on your analysis)

• Do an initial responsibility matrix (probably with very few tasks still…)

• Do the overview planning (all the way up to mid-December, the latter half tentative)

• Set milestones (again, latter half tentative)

• Discuss relevant activities

• Turn activities -> tasks (particularly now in the beginning)

• Initial dependencies between tasks and milestones

We have a second visitor, a lawyer that will explain and exemplify the legal aspects of developing for health care applications.

If there's anything you want to discuss with me (Björn), I'm happy to do that. I'll be sitting outside the studio (there's teaching inside).

We look forward to hearing what you're working on in the projects. This is a quite informal update but make sure we get a good understanding what you have been doing, what you're currently focusing on, and what's next on your agenda. Highlight successes as well as challenges - we'll all learn from each other's mistakes or good solutions. Each group has 15 mins at their disposal.

Åke has some specific instructions for the participants in PEL:

"De tre första projektuppdragen ni fått handlar om hur man (med teknikstöd) kan analysera och använda befintlig medicinsk teknik på nya sätt. De tre övriga projekten går mera direkt in på förbättringar av den befintliga tekniken. I båda fallen är det bra om ni börjar med en kort beskrivning av den teknikanvändning era projekt gäller. Sedan kan ni gå in på hur långt ni kommit med de övergripande frågorna om vilka intressenter som berörs av utmaningen i era projekt, vilka behov de har, hur de berörs av teknikanvändningen och vilka möjliga data eller observationer ni hoppas kunna samla in som belyser hur det ser ut idag och hur det skulle kunna se ut om något eller några år."

Oscar has a long experience working on different health related projects. He'll dive into them all. Use the opportunity to ask lots of questions!

I've understood that you're all working hard. I believe it's more useful for you to focus on your respective projects rather than having guest lectures. If there's anything I can help you with, come by the studio!

Today we have the final update on your progress in your projects. The focus today is of course on where you currently are and your plans for the final stretch. We'll devote max 15 mins to each group. Prepare for a 7-8 mins presentation, so we have lots of time for questions and comments. If you wish, use the opportunity to prepare some discussion points in relation to your projects. 

I expect everyone to be active and supportive to the other groups. We learn by sharing!

We'’ll be at Innovationsplatsen for both the presentation and the exhibition. Be there well before the start time so everything is set up and working. Please invite whoever you think would benefit from attending!

The presentation

Feel free to focus on whichever strong points your project have; either the results, the process or both. Don’t feel you have to present everything, you decide what to present and which is the most efficient way to present it. Use the opportunity to refer to both the exhibition and the report for further details. The report, of course, should be the most comprehensive and complete deliverable. A presentation is, in essence, a realtime broadcast where you can see people’'s reactions and adapt (to some extent). You have 20 mins to totally amaze us. Make use of that opportunity. Put on a show for us. You’'re the experts on your projects and its results. Be confident and convincing.

The exhibition

There will be a table, you pretty much need to bring the rest. This is a face-to-face opportunity for you to interact with the persons with a special interest in your particular project. Be prepared to, basically, answer any type of question. Expect people to be interested. They want to know the details. They want to know more. They also want to try things. This is where the hands-on demo should typically be available. Prepare it so it shows both the need and the usefulness. Use many visuals, tables, films, flow charts, etc etc. Whatever gives a deep understanding of the project and adds to your credibility. And, again, for further details you can always refer to the upcoming report.
