Small and Visionary Projects – strategic funding

EECS allocates 5 mSEK in FOFU agency's capital for strategic initiatives at the school. Employees from at least two different divisions or departments can apply for funding of 500 kSEK to jointly develop project applications. Projects can be based on existing research but must clearly formulate research questions that are innovative and not already researched. The funds are allocated by a committee that assesses through transparent rules.

This is the first call of two within this strategic initiative. The second one will open fall 2025, apply before 1 September 2025.

Apply for strategic founds from EECS

  • Strategic founds from MK will be used total 5 MSEK (one time funding)
  • Projects of 500 kSEK and total 10 projects will be funded
  • Researchers (doctoral students are not included for this call) from at least two divisions at EECS can apply

Write your application

  • A brief description of the project, state of the art, problem formulation, challenges addressed, etc.
  • Collaborating partners, if applicable
  • Action plan and time table
  • How the project links to the KTH's vision,  and proposal of activities (e.g. creation of collaboration groups at KTH, release of policy briefs, outreach, seminars etc.)
  • Budget
  • CV of the applicants
  • The proposal should be of maximum 5 pages, excluding Budget, CVs and references.  

The projects will be conducted during 2025-2026 and reported back to the EECS management and Vice Head of School for Research & Impact. All projects will present their results in EECS Research &Impact Day 2026. Eligible to apply are researchers and faculty staff at KTH, and funds are internally invoiced by the main applicant. The funding can only be used by KTH staff, meaning no funding can go to external partners. Criteria for award will include novelty of the approach, possible impact on climate action goals, multidisciplinarity, and the strength of the link to the KTH visions for sustainable developments.
