KTH Library’s Vision – Priority Areas 2025–2029
KTH aims to take the lead in driving sustainable societal development. To succeed, a well-functioning, forward-looking library is essential—one that evolves in response to the needs of students, teachers, and researchers, while also adapting to a changing world. The library is part of the public library system and contributes to the development of a democratic society by supporting knowledge dissemination and freedom of opinion.
The library houses enduring collections for study and research. It helps students develop critical thinking and broaden their perspectives, contributing to higher graduation rates. It also supports open and accessible research, making scientific output available to a broader audience. Our academic freedom and our principles of openness and transparency are fundamental to knowledge development and democracy. We are courageous, creative, and responsible, driven by the vision of enabling a sustainable and equitable society.
The library’s operations are based on:
-
The Higher Education Act
-
The Swedish Library Act
-
KTH’s vision and goals
-
The Administrative Support's rules of procedure and delegation of authority
The Library’s Core Areas
KTH Library’s operations are grounded in three core areas:
Information Provision and Knowledge Management
The library provides access to enduring scientific information for today’s and tomorrow’s academic study and research. It develops its collections through acquisition, active curation, and dissemination of information resources, in dialogue with students, teachers, and researchers at KTH.
Learning and Meetings
The library is part of a vibrant campus – an open space where knowledge is shared and ideas grow through both expected and unexpected encounters. It offers a knowledge-rich environment with study spaces that foster focus, creativity, and dialogue, along with staff who provide support and guidance.
The library’s educational efforts strengthen students’, teachers’, and researchers’ ability to navigate the complex information landscape by developing skills in locating, evaluating, using, and publishing scientific information – for successful studies, leading-edge research, and lifelong learning.
Dissemination of KTH’s Scientific Output
The library enables access to, use of, and reuse of KTH research by supporting the collection and dissemination of KTH’s scholarly output, with the goal of making it as open and accessible as possible. The library provides guidance on scientific publishing, research data management, and open science. Through analysis of research information, the library contributes to a deeper understanding of KTH’s research and publication activities.
Vision for 2030
To support KTH’s vision and goals, the library is working to ensure that by 2030, KTH students, teachers, and researchers:
Our approach to development
We continuously evolve our practices to ensure a relevant library offering – co-created with students, teachers, and researchers at KTH. The library also strives to be an attractive workplace that attracts and retains committed and skilled staff.
User-Centered Development
We place users at the center of our development. By systematically exploring how students, teachers, and researchers experience and use our services, we ensure that their needs guide our priorities.
Ideas Are Encouraged, We Learn from One Another, and Are Inspired by Others
The diverse backgrounds, experiences, and competencies of our staff are among the library’s greatest assets. We share knowledge, support one another, and trust in our own and each other’s abilities.
The library fosters a creative and innovative culture where ideas from both staff and users are welcomed and valued. We work exploratively, take inspiration from others, test new ideas, and learn from our experiences.
Collaboration Across Boundaries
We work as one team within a flexible and supportive organizational structure. We seek opportunities and collaborate across internal and external boundaries—within the library, across KTH, and with national and international partners—to improve our services.
Efficient and Sustainable Methods
Our approach is defined by simple and purposeful methods, clear and fast decision-making, and using our time where it creates the most value. We work with a long-term, sustainable, and forward-thinking mindset.
Follow-up and Evaluation
We follow up on our outcomes and analyse the impact of our work on users and on KTH’s education and research. These insights form the basis for planning and future development.
