On April 29, KTH researchers from a variety of disciplines came together for Brain Day to explore how their collective focus on brain research could spark new collaborations.

The event marked the official launch of KTH’s new brain health initiative, designed to connect brain researchers across the university — many of whom had been working independently, largely unaware of each other’s work. The goal: to create a collaborative, cross-disciplinary community dedicated to advancing brain science and health.

“The classic approach isn’t enough. We need to combine insights from multiple fields to make real progress,” said Arvind Kumar, from the Division of Computational Science and Technology, who is leading the initiative.

With brain disorders accounting for 35% of global healthcare costs, the stakes are high. Collaboration could accelerate progress and drive innovation. Approximately 60 participants from diverse research areas, including brain imaging, genomics (transcriptomics), computational models, experimental neuroscience, and data analysis, joined the event.

“We aim to build a strong community for those working in brain research — where we can learn from and support each other, and discover what we can achieve together,” said Anna Månberg from the Department of Protein Science at SciLifeLab.
