Scania x KTH Research Day

On Thursday, October 2, KTH and Scania hosted the Scania x KTH Research Day as part of the strategic partnership. The event brought together researchers, engineers, and strategists from both KTH and Scania in equal numbers, strengthening collaboration for the future of sustainable transport.
The Scania × KTH Research Day was a true joint effort to advance sustainable transport and share knowledge, introducing key research themes and a new Best Paper Award.
”It’s inspiring to see that after so many years of partnership, we continue to challenge and encourage each other in our shared commitment to driving technological development for sustainability,” says Professor Annika Stensson Trigell, Partnership Director for Scania.
The event highlighted both ongoing projects and future opportunities, asking: How can the partnership help scale up to bigger, transformative initiatives?
The day featured workshops on three key themes:
- How should smart systems work with human needs? (Intelligent Systems)
- What powers and shapes tomorrow’s vehicles? (Circularity & Energy)
- How do we design transport that lasts? (Resilience)
Together, Scania and KTH will continue to explore, innovate, and push boundaries in sustainable transport and beyond.
”The workshop provided valuable insights into industry needs and demonstrated how diverse perspectives can create opportunities to develop our collaboration in new directions,” says Karl Henrik Johansson, Professor at Division of Decision and Control Systems at KTH and Director of Digital Futures, who led a workshop that focused on software-defined vehicles.
Best Paper Award
For the first time, the Scania x KTH Best Paper Award was presented, recognising outstanding achievements in collaborative research, and exemplifying the partnership’s contribution to sustainable transport, achieving more together.
The Best Paper Award was awarded to Electrochemical model-based aging-adaptive fast charging of automotive lithium-ion cells Malin Andersson, Moritz Streb, Venu Gopal Prathimala, Aamer Siddiqui, Andrew Lodge, Verena Löfqvist Klass, Matilda Klett, Mikael Johansson, Göran Lindbergh.
