Published Nov 17, 2008

Börje Johansson, KTH Professor of Applied Material Physics has, in the face of stiff competition, been awarded a research grant by the European Research Council, ERC. This type of financing is termed Advanced Grants and is aimed at established researchers who are on the leading edge of their fields.

The ERC scheme encompasses EUR 542 million with an opportunity to receive EUR 3.5 million over a five year period for each approved application. Börje Johansson’s grant concerns the project entitled “Atomic-Level Physics of Advanced Materials”.

The aim of the European Research Council is to support the best researchers in Europe. One long-term goal is to increase the level of scientific excellence in Europe and enhance its profile globally.

Previously this year KTH professors Axel Brandenburg, Björn Ottersten and Johan Håstad were also allocated grants from this scheme.
