How to find your way at KTH

Published Sep 22, 2009

Do you think that the KTH campus on Valhallavägen in Stockholm is like a jungle? Mostly consisting of enormous amounts of ivy-covered red brick? That’s not surprising as the campus is as big as Gamla Stan area of Stockholm. Students at KTH have solved this problem by creating a “Find your way” package which includes the Google service Sketchup among other goodies.

Previously, most of the top universities in the USA have adopted the concept of putting their campuses up in 3D on Google Earth.

KTH has gone one step further and will be the first university in the world to combine a number of different, popular websites.

These services are a mixture of Google Sketchup, Youtube and the yellow pages service Hitta.se’s function Gatuvy, and this package has been created to help students find their way on campus.

“A student, a visitor or an employee can very easily find out how to get to a place by searching for a classroom and receiving a text description, maps, 3D models and video clips,” says Yifang Ban who is Professor of Geoinformatics at KTH and responsible for the project.

Some students from the School of Architecture and the Built Environment at KTH have created this service together.
