Zaky
After graduating from Gadjah Mada University in Indonesia and seven years of experience in the manufacturing industry, Zaky is now a student in the Industrial Management Master’s programme. With strong passion for strategic approach, Zaky aims to complement his mechanical engineering background with management expertise. Outside of academic learning, Zaky loves to play any musical instruments that he can get his hands on.

Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?
I have been very interested in KTH ever since my graduation from my bachelor’s degree. I met some KTH representatives in a study fair in Indonesia and while talking to them, I gained some insight into studies in innovation which was my interest at the time. Alas, the dream of getting higher education was unfortunately postponed because of Covid. After seven years of working with improvement and innovation initiatives, I stumbled upon a Study in Sweden IG post which reminded me of KTH. It rekindled my desire of improving myself and thought that the Industrial Management Program would perfectly complement my mechanical engineering background and management experience.
What are some of your favourite courses so far?
One course that comes to mind is Operations and Supply Chain Strategy. The thing that I love the most about the academic approach is how we need to apply our understanding of theories and frameworks in decision making processes. And that is exactly what the course is about. During the whole course we explore a number (a lot!) of frameworks and apply it to study cases in a group. So, it’s like consultant role play. It’s very fun!
Another one that I like is Industrial Transformation and Technical Changes. As someone who worked with innovation processes, it’s pretty eye opening to see the theories on how industries would change. So, I think it’s a pretty interesting course!
How would you describe your time at KTH so far?
Studying at KTH has been a very meaningful experience for me so far. It’s an entirely different approach compared to my home country. New people, new culture, new environment, new seasons (we only have 2 in Indonesia), and what I love the most: new friends and connections! I really love experiencing new things and KTH has wonderfully enabled me to do just that!
What do you want to do after graduating?
I have always been interested in the academic field and my time in KTH has strengthened that even more! I have not really made up my mind on it yet but I hope I can continue to better myself in the field. Getting back to the industry with the newly gained management skills sound promising, I am also looking for consultancy opportunities. I’m especially interested in work opportunities here in Sweden! There’s also the possibility of pursuing a Ph.D. if I can find a research area that captivates me.
What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master’s studies?
KTH is an excellent opportunity for anyone seeking an international education in a diverse and inclusive environment. Its programmes emphasise practical learning and embed sustainability throughout the curriculum. Beyond academics, Sweden’s breathtaking landscapes and vibrant student life enrich the overall experience. You can study surrounded by beautiful nature and a dynamic academic community. KTH can provide you with the support, resources, and global connections that you might need to achieve your career goals. I’m sure in time, you’ll look back and recognise this as one of the most meaningful decisions you made. KTH is more than a place to study; it’s where lasting memories and personal growth begin.
