Jasper

Jasper is from India and is currently pursuing a Master’s programme in Production Engineering and Management. He completed his bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from Loyola ICAM College of Engineering and Technology. When not in class, Jasper is probably gaming, exploring new cultures (aka any excuse to travel), or trying some random dance moves he saw on Instagram. He also enjoys capturing beautiful moments like sunsets, cityscapes, or just a perfectly brewed cup of coffee.

Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?
Honestly, I was looking for a programme that had the right mix of technical knowledge and management insight - something that could help me build a solid career in Production systems and operations. The project-based learning approach at KTH really stood out. The curriculum of this programme is designed to make you think, build, collaborate, and tackle challenges that reflect real industry needs. That kind of learning environment made this programme at KTH, an easy and exciting choice for me.

What are the best aspects of your programme?

The collaboration with industry in many of the courses is a huge plus. We get to engage in simulations, lab work, and group projects that reflect real-life challenges faced in companies. It’s not just about lectures; it’s about applying what you learn in real scenarios. Also, the professors are very approachable (which is refreshing), and the overall atmosphere is supportive and encouraging.

Have you chosen a specialisation track within the programme? Which track and why?

The programme offers three specialisation tracks: Industrial IT Systems, Production Engineering and Management, and Industrial Welding (which is only offered in Swedish). One of the best aspects is the flexibility; you are not strictly bound to a single track. This allowed me to choose courses that genuinely align with my interests and career goals, rather than following a fixed path. I have primarily focused on the Production Engineering and Management track, as it closely matches my future aspirations, but I also explored relevant courses from the other track to broaden my perspective.

How is student life in Stockholm?
Stockholm has this really cool mix of calm and excitement. There is nature everywhere. You can literally take a fika break between lectures or go hiking in the woods. At the same time, the city is buzzing with student events, cultural festivals, and fun activities. And yes, the winters are cold, but that means you get to try ice skating or enjoy a cup of warm glögg (Swedish mulled wine) without guilt.

What do you want to do after graduating?
I am aiming for a career that combines technical knowledge with strategic thinking. I am particularly interested in fields like operations management and process improvement, where I can solve problems, optimise how things run, and create more efficient workflows. My coursework in production systems, simulation, and industrial management has given me both the technical tools and the strategic mindset to tackle complex operational challenges. Ideally, I would like a role that challenges me both technically and strategically.

What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master’s studies?

Go for it! If you are looking for a study experience that is practical, international, and genuinely exciting, KTH is a great pick. The courses aren’t just theory-heavy; they are designed around real-world applications, with plenty of group projects, lab work, and industry collaboration. Beyond academics, there’s a vibrant student life, countless events, and opportunities to grow professionally and personally. It’s the environment that pushes you out of your comfort zone in the best possible way. You’ll learn a lot and discover more about yourself than expected.
