Development of carbon nanosphere and carbon dot based adsorbents

Project information

This projects aims to develop adsorbents based on biomass derived carbon nanospheres and carbon dots. In recent studies we demonstrated that carbon nanospheres can be produced by effective, green and up-scalable microwave assisted reaction from various bioresources such as starch and cellulose. During this project these carbon products will be further modified, functionalized and/or combined with polymeric carriers. The potential of these relatively cheap materials in water purification applications will then be evaluated including removal and/or sensing of trace pharmaceuticals or heavy metals. The project is financed by China Scholarship Council through KTH-CSC Programme.
