Potential and cost-effectiveness of climate mitigation measures

A literature survey on present state of the art

Publicerad 2011-01-14

Together with the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR), the division of Industrial Ecology will carry out a literature study analysing the present state of the art of the potentials and cost-effectiveness of climate mitigation measures.

Aim:
The aim of this study is two-folded. First, to provide a basis for recommendations to the Swedish municipalities so that they can prioritize between different mitigation options. Secondly, to highlight the importance of local authorities as stakeholders addressing climate change mitigation and to raise awareness on the national (government) level of the municipalities and their contributions to climate change mitigation.

Our study focuses on:
Analyse the potentials in energy savings and CO2 emissions reductions for measures considered by the municipalities
Analyse the cost-effectiveness of these measures
In addition to the focus areas the mitigation measures are also analysed from a municipal Sphere of Influence perspective. A simplified mapping model is developed during the study for this purpose.

Seminars and Workhops:
During the project at least two seminars are planned. One of these will probably be open for interested stakeholders. Date and topics have not yet been decided upon. Fore more information, please check back to the website in early 2010.

Project time frame: December 2009 to november 2010

Project leader: Nils Brandt, associate professor, Industrial Ecology, KTH
