Submariner-Sustainable Uses of Baltic Marine Resources
The aim of the project is to develop the Baltic Sea into a European model region by :
-fostering its sustainable economic development, and improving its environmental conditions through the support and development of new maritime products and technologies.
Industrial Ecology will work with sustainable aqua-culture with emphasis on the harvesting and uses of micro- and macro algae, mussels and reed for energy production (e.g. biogas) and the potential to reduce eutrophication in the Baltic Sea by the nutrients that will be removed during biomass removal.
The project is a Baltic Sea Region Project (BSR) Interreg IVB, with projects partners from all BSR countries. The total budget of the project is 3 581 000 Euro and the budget for Industrial Ecology is around 300 000 Euro. The project started the 6 of October 2010 and will be finished by the 1 of June 2013.
