KTH's cyber defence centre is inaugurated
On 15 January, the KTH Center for Cyber Defense and Information Security (CDIS) was inaugurated, a collaboration between KTH and the Swedish Armed Forces. The centre will conduct research and train cyber soldiers, among other things.
The inauguration was held in the experimental reactor R1 at KTH, Sweden's first nuclear reactor, and included presentations, among others, by KTH's professor Pontus Johnson, the centre director, KTH's Vice President, Annika Stensson Trigell and from the Swedish Armed Forces, Colonel Patrik Ahlgren and Rickard Strid, head of research.
The collaboration is part of the Swedish Armed Forces' mission to further strengthen Sweden's cyber defence and ability to operate in the cyber domain, also called the fifth battlefield. The centre will conduct research in the area and train cyber soldiers. Six doctoral students, four of whom have already started, will be doing research in various areas of cyber security and in July, 30 recruits will begin an eleven-month training in cyber defence.
Pontus Johnson, professor of networking and systems engineering at KTH and responsible for CDIS says:
“The Swedish Armed Forces' responsibilities and powers in the field of cyber security in Sweden are exceptional. Therefore, we could not find a better partner for the centre.”
