Re-appointed IEEE Distinguished Lecturer

For the second time, Carlo Fischione, professor at KTH, has been appointed IEEE Distinguished Lecturer by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc)—a prestigious recognition awarded to experts who have made significant contributions to communications and networking.
The title acknowledges his impact on the field and provides an opportunity to share knowledge with IEEE members, students, and professionals worldwide. He hopes to be able to share cutting-edge insights from his research group at KTH.
“Being an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer is both an honour and a responsibility. It is a recognition of the impact of my work in communications and networking, as well as an opportunity to contribute more broadly to the global IEEE community,” says Fischione.
Advancing the future of communications
With rapid advancements in communications and networking, Fischione highlights 6G and AI-driven networks as some of the most exciting developments shaping the future.
“As we transition from 5G to 6G, AI is integral to optimizing network performance, resource allocation, and predictive maintenance. AI-native networks will be self-optimizing, self-healing, and highly adaptive,” he explains.
Fischione’s expertise in AI-driven wireless networks, IoT, and 6G has led to high-impact publications, patents, and key industry collaborations. In addition to leading several VR, KAW, WASP and SSF projects, he also played a significant role in establishing the IEEE International Conference on Machine Learning for Communications and Networking (IEEE ICMLCM) held at KTH in May 2024.
“I believe my contributions, including founding this new conference and serving as the IEEE ComSoc representative on the IEEE AI Alliance, played a key role in my re-appointment,” Fischione finishes.
With this renewed recognition, Carlo Fischione continues to position KTH as a hub for groundbreaking research in the future of communications and networking.
