Dubai buys Real Estate courses from KTH

Published Sep 06, 2007

Dubai Real Estate Institute, which is a team of Middle East private investors, have just procured course programmes in Real Estate Economics from KTH´s Div. of Building & Real Estate Economics. This venture has also bought course programmes from University of Singapore, and from Reading University in GB. This all indicates a desire to devise and create a new financial centre in this part of the world.

- The matter of Dubai making an educational effort in real estate economics clearly indicates a strategy aiming towards a new financial centre in the Middle East, says Building Economics Professor Stellan Lundström, KTH. One effect is to prepare the region for a continued state of well-being on the day when oil is no more! Another indication of this effort is the offer made for the OMX Stock Exchange here in Stockholm.

KTH´s education package will be delivered on site in Dubai. This will include elementary principles of real estate economics, investment analysis, property evaluation and property management. Students will be recruited from the entire Middle East region.

These courses have already been oversubscribed; questions have also been asked whether KTH could supply a complete and tailor-made Master´s Programme for professionals to this end. That discussion has not started yet, however.

At the same time the Dubai party are buying some specially designed course packages from National University of Singapore and Reading University. In the course of KTH´s negotiations with the investors, they have also expressed interest in buying both research and education in a large number of other subject areas. Examples of these are environment technology and banking.

- KTH in Dubai is another sign confirming that the education market is becoming a wholly international one, remarks Prof. Lundström. Dubai is a flattering challenge to us here at KTH – but you have to devise a strategy for this kind of action, so you could choose wisely from among the numerous international project offers that are popping up!
