QS ranks KTH 37th globally in engineering and tech, 64th in natural science

KTH Royal Institute of Technology is now ranked among the top 100 universities worldwide in engineering, technology and natural sciences, according to the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024. KTH ranks 37th in the subject area of Engineering & Technology, and 64th in the subject area of Natural Sciences.

In Engineering & Technology, KTH is ranked 7th among universities in the EU and 1st in Sweden. In Natural Sciences, KTH is 14th among universities in the EU and 1st in Sweden. 

Produced annually by QS, the subject rankings are based on scores in academic reputation, employer reputation, citations, h-index (a measure of both productivity and reach of publications) and international research collaborations. These include specific subject rankings and two overall rankings that apply to KTH, namely, Engineering & Technology and Natural Sciences. This year, KTH is ranked higher in both, from 44th in 2023 to 37th in Engineering & Technology, and from 101st in 2023 to 64th in Natural Sciences.

"It is fantastic to see KTH continue to climb established rankings and show successful development in various subjects. It demonstrates KTH's high quality and competitiveness in technology and science," KTH's Deputy President Mikael Lindström says.

KTH is in the top 200 in 15 subjects. In many subjects, the results are relatively unchanged compared to last year, but KTH picks up places in Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufactural Engineering (from 23rd to 20th), Mathematics (from 48th to 45th), Physics & Astronomy (from 64th to 48th), Chemical Engineering (from 58th to 57th), Computer Science & Info Systems (from 62nd to 60th), Environmental sciences (from 78th to 74th) and Biological Sciences (from 151st to 127th).

Compared to last year, KTH has received higher scores for academic reputation, employer reputation and citations in Engineering & Technology and higher scores in all indicators except IRN in Natural Sciences.
