The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) has elected 39 new fellows, three of whom are professors from KTH: Tina Karrbom Gustavsson, Johan Rockberg and Henrik Sandberg.

“It feels great! It's an honour and at the same time an opportunity to make a difference together with many others,” Karrbom Gustavsson says.

IVA brings together academia, industry and politics and works to promote people's ability to contribute positively to society through technical and economic science. Its members consist of prominent engineers, economists, researchers, entrepreneurs and leaders in industry and the public sector.

Several of IVA’s fellows are from KTH, including President Anders Söderholm, who was elected to the academy in 2023. The three newly elected KTH professors will sit in the departments of Civil Engineering, Biotechnology and Electrical Engineering.

Tina Karrbom Gustavsson

Elected as a fellow of IVA's Building and Construction Division.

Tina Karrbom Gustavsson  is a professor of project communication at KTH. She conducts research and teaches in the areas of projects and project management, construction project management, procurement, innovation, collaboration and digitalisation. Karrbom Gustavsson is also coordinator for the Swedish Construction University and vice-chair of the Swedish Project Academy.

“My interest in collaboration between academia, industry and society will certainly contribute, as will my knowledge and current research on large projects and the role of the client, as well as procurement for innovation and sustainable transformation. Large projects and procurement are particularly relevant and important issues at present, given all the investments being made in areas such as housing renovation, energy infrastructure expansion and road and rail maintenance," Karrbom Gustavsson says.

Johan Rockberg

Elected as a fellow of IVA's Biotechnology Division.

Johan Rockberg  is Professor of Antibody Engineering and Directed Evolution at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Director of GeneNova Center, a research centre at KTH focused on developing the next generation of biological drugs. As a professor and research leader, Rockberg has focused on the development of antibody technologies and directed evolution for biotechnological and medical applications.

Henrik Sandberg

Elected as a fellow of IVA's Electrical Engineering Division.

Henrik Sandberg  is a professor of decision and control engineering at KTH and conducts research into the security of cyber-physical systems, particularly in critical infrastructure such as electricity grids. Between 2015 and 2024, Sandberg headed the MSB centre CERCES and has published influential works on risk analysis and security solutions for industrial control systems. Since 2024, he has led the DYNACON NEST research initiative on security for autonomous systems, in collaboration with universities and industry partners.
