One quarter of human proteins mapped

Published Aug 29, 2008

More than thee thousand proteins were listed in the third version of the Human Protein Atlas. The fourth version that was launched recently consists of double that number. This means that 25 percent of human proteins have now been mapped within the framework of the Human Proteome Resource Project, HPR.

The fourth version of the Human Protein Atlas was launched on 18 August, says the journal Biotech Scandinavia. In addition to the quarter of the human proteins that have now been mapped the Protein Atlas includes an advanced search tool. The Human Proteome Resource Project, HPR, is one of the largest Swedish research projects ever. The aim is to define and locate all the human proteins. This project, financed by the Wallenberg Foundation, is led by Professor Mathias Uhlén of the School of Biotechnology, KTH.
