The KTH President Peter Gudmundson has been appointed as a member of the Government Technology Delegation which is to work to ensure a satisfactory supply of engineers in the future.

The task of the Technology Delegation is to take various measures aimed at increasing young people’s interest in course subjects such as mathematics, natural sciences, technology and IT. It is also to propose how the various actors can collaborate in order to create a greater level of interest in these subjects.

The Delegation, which is led by the CEO of Volvo Leif Johansson, will prepare a final report on its activities by 30 April 2010, however it will also undertake outreach measures during this period such running as various campaigns. The Delegation consists of 14 members representing business/industry, the academic sphere and business organisations.

“The availability of competent employees is a decisive factor for Swedish technical and engineering companies in this era of globalisation. I am glad that so many committed individuals have agreed to give their time to working with this vital task,” says the Minister for Higher Education and Research Lars Leijonborg in a press release.
