Mathematician awarded for analysis
Lilian Matthiesen , senior lecturer at the Department of Mathematics, has been awarded the Tage Erlander Prize. The motivation for the award, which is given by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, is that she has "used new methods from higher Fourier analysis to solve several important problems in Diophantine geometry". The Tage Erlander Prize is awarded annually to support Swedish research in science, technology and maths. This year the prize is awarded in the field of mathematics.
Awarded for inclusive work
Jan Gulliksen , professor of Human-Computer Interaction, has been awarded the ACM SIGCHI Societal Impact Award for his research and activities focused on creating a more inclusive society through digitalisation. Gulliksen received the award in recognition of the innovation and depth of his research, direct societal impact and leadership in the field. SIGCHI is an international network in human technology and human-computer interaction.
Prized for materials chemistry
Muhammet S. Toprak , professor of Materials Chemistry, has received the international Global Star Award. The award was presented during the ICACC2024 conference, organised by the American Ceramic Society, for his contributions to the Engineering Ceramics Division (ECD) and to the technical programme of the International Conference & Exposition on Advanced Ceramics & Composites (ICACC).
Astrophysicist to the Academy
Josefin Larsson , professor of astrophysics, is now an elected member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Larsson studies extreme astrophysical objects such as supernovae and gamma-ray bursts and was elected to the class of astronomy and space sciences.
Polymer researcher in journal council
Antonio Capezza , a researcher in polymeric materials, has together with around 20 other young international researchers been elected to a new expert council for the scientific journal Biomacromolecules, which is one of the world's most cited in its field. The aim of the council is to bring new perspectives to the development of the publication and to promote collaboration between young and senior researchers.
