Ranking: KTH best Swedish university in engineering and computer science

KTH is considered number 39 and number 61 in the world according to the 2024 Times Higher Education subject rankings. Improvements also in physical sciences.

In the latest 2024 Times Higher Education subject rankings (THE), KTH stands out as the premier Swedish institution for engineering and computer science, securing the 39th position globally in engineering and 61st in computer sciences.

The Engineering subject ranking highlights the leading universities across general engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical and aerospace engineering, civil engineering, and chemical engineering.

The best institutions for engineering were Harvard University and Stanford University. KTH improved from last year’s result, going from 53rd to 39th, thus not only ranking among the top 50 institutions of the world but also the highest-placed university in Sweden.
 
On the computer sciences subject ranking, KTH is now considered the 61st-best university in the world, the only Swedish university among the top 100. The University of Oxford sits in first place on the list.
 
As for physical sciences, KTH also improved, sitting within the bracket of the world's 101-125 best universities. This is an improvement from last year when it ended in the 126-150 group. The physical sciences subject ranking highlights the universities leading across mathematics and statistics, physics and astronomy, chemistry, geology, environmental, and earth and marine sciences. The California Institute of Technology tops the list.

The subject rankings are based on the same five indicators as the world university ranking: Research Quality, Industry, International Outlook, Research Environment and Teaching. 

KTH is ranked as the 97th-best university in the world in competition with 1904 institutions worldwide. The University of Oxford is considered the best.A new methodology has boosted KTH’s results for the subject and world university rankings. Still, the improvement is also thanks to consistently strong scores irrespective of changes to the methodology.
