Tuula Teeri new Dep. President at KTH

Published Dec 18, 2007

Effective 1 January, Ms. Tuula Teeri, Professor of Wood Biotechnology at KTH, will be our new Executive Deputy President. This decision was taken by the KTH Board last Wednesday (12 Dec.).

– My most profound experiences are all in research, says Prof. Teeri. Thus it gives me very great pleasure to be offered this marvellous opportunity to improve research conditions for our research staff here. I´m a firm believer in basic research of top-notch quality if good innovation results are to be achieved, and I want to strengthen the important role KTH already has in deepening future technical expertise in Sweden. Together with our new President Peter Gudmundson, I want to contribute towards making KTH a world-class university.

Tuula Teeri arrived at KTH in 1996 as a Visiting Professor from the VTT Research Institute in Finland, where she had won her doctor´s hat in molecular genetics at Univ. of Helsinki. Since 1998 she has held the KTH
professorial chair in Wood Biotechnology. She has been instrumental in the effort to strengthen and develop the position of that research field.

Also, Tuula Teeri is head of research at the Biomime Research Centre here KTH. She will retain some of her personal commitments in practical research for some time, before all her efforts are to go into co-ordinating those of other KTH people.

Previously, she was Vice-Dean at the KTH School of Biotechnology as well as a member of the Faculty Board. Prof. Teeri has also served on our Appointments Committee, the Employments Committee and the KTH Executive Group.
