Two KTH teams in eco car competition

Published Mar 09, 2009

Five Swedish student teams, of which two are from KTH, will be participating in this year’s European eco-car competition, the Shell Eco-marathon. Altogether some 200 student teams are expected to take part in the contest which will be held this year at the EuroSpeedway in Lausitz, Germany 7–9 May.

The challenge for the students is to construct a vehicle with an engine that can travel as far as possible on a stated amount of energy. The record was set in 2005 when one vehicle drove 3 836 kilometres on the energy corresponding to one litre of petrol.

Of Sweden’s five teams this year two are from KTH, two from Chalmers and one from Luleå University. KTH’s teams are Team Aurora in the Urban Concept Class with Mikael Hellgren as Project Manager and Team Agilis in the Prototype Class with Kjell Andersson as Project Manager. In addition to teams from more than 25 European countries, teams from North Africa and Asia will be taking part this year.
