Several research grants for projects on AI have been awarded to Mattias Wiggberg from INDEK
About the research grants for AI projects awarded to Mattias Wiggberg and his blog about the highlights of being an AI researcher at KTH.
The first grant is awarded to the project BRIGHTER –Leading trusted AI for a sustainable society that is funded by Vinnova with a grant for 150000 SEK.
Purpose and goal
The BRIGHTER project aims to pave the way towards establishing a national and international leading cluster for research and innovation on AI-driven, autonomous and sustainable systems. The long-term goal is to build an arena where academia, industry and the public sector together develop knowledge, testbeds and applications that strengthen Sweden´s capacity within AI-based (cyber-physical) autonomous systems, data-driven innovation and sustainable societal development.

Mattias also serve as a partner Pi, in the project ELL 3.0 where he has secured 7 MSEK also from Vinnoa over three years as part of the national Expert Learning Lab (ELL 3.0).
In total, Vinnova and our industry partners are investing more than 90 MSEK to address one of Sweden’s most critical challenges: the shortage of advanced digital and AI-driven expertise.
ELL 3.0 now scales into a national ecosystem for expert learning. Together with ABB, Ericsson, Saab, Volvo Group, Chalmers, Linköping University and Örebro University, the initiative will challenge and upskill 1,500 senior industrial experts annually in frontier digital skills.
KTH’s role sharpens in this next phase:
- KTH will lead the work on technological foresight, examining how emerging technologies reshape industrial competences and long-term national capability. This phase also includes a new PhD position, strengthening our research footprint in this domain.
This is an exciting step for KTH, both in contributing to Sweden’s digital resilience, deepening our collaboration with industry’s top experts and continue to develop our technological foresight research.
